How to be a furry artist Part 2 = Finding your style and etc

Image
Ok there are various styles for you to get in the fandom, the only profitable styles i have ever seen tho are the anime and toony styles. I am actually not sure where my style fits to be honest, if you were gonna decide, where does it fall into? Anime or Toony? an illustration of my fursona, he falls under the Bara part of the fandom, bara is a shortened term for Barazoku in japan, to make this acceptable to read, let's say he's supposed to have a big muscular body. The fandom is full of people that accepts the lgbtq and they will always support each other for who they are and what they want to be. Speaking of Bara, there are also the other subcategories of the genre, which is big curvy female characters, the extra large characters, tough characters. all kinds, and they all have their large amounts of followers of their own category. Being versatile is also acceptable but it's not enough to get a well known following per category, so you have to work real hard if you wa...

How to be a Furry artist Part 1 = Getting in the Fandom

Image
Well first things first is to get in the fandom of course, get yourself acquainted to those who are in the fandom and make friends with em, of course like in real life, not everyone is a good person so pick and choose your friends wisely and make sure they fit your social needs. The fandom is full of great people and one of the most well known parts of the fandom is getting art, so if you wanna be like me earning 400$ a month while staying in my room and still studying in college, then you should think about investing in a tablet, a wacom intuos is what i got first. Of course i didn't start out very well and this picture can surely do show a big difference in my art this is the same character but drawn 3 years apart, and if the community knows about you and loves your style, then they will absolutely get commissions from you! Tho most of the community stands by the cartoony/anime style of characters, it can be stylized and realistic but not alot of people likes realistic human...

Let's talk about character design

As a furry, i have seen so many character designs, and most of them are amazing! except some, i don't wanna name names here but some of them just goes over the top and to the point that i think most artists don't want to draw them, especially if people falls into those adoptables where the designs becomes too much, they end up not being used at all and it's pretty much a waste of money, i want artists to know that, simplicity is the best design you could think of. You don't have to clutter your character with so many complicated looking stripes to make it look different, you could give them extra fur by their necks, elbows or shoulders, or body shapes that will really make them differ from each other, or a much larger forearm to show they like to get into fistfights! Story then design goes well together, Design is practically a translator to the character that This is what they represent, and being a cluttered mess ends up being "tryyyyyhaaaaard" Keep the de...

Let's talk about Animation

I've been told that the animation industry is brutal af, i mean don't get me wrong i have heard stories to where they describe your mistakes to the point of laughable jokes to hurt your ego, but the point is, they want everything to be as best as they can be! and taking criticism ain't so bad! they want you to do better so you have to understand why they can be very brutal at times, they ARE the pro! so you better follow those 12 principles of animation cuz they'll be hella useful if you wanna be an animator! Different forms of animation could use different principles! For example! Tekken 7 the best fighting game of all times, not sponsored by the way, is animated beautifully, mostly using the anticipation, followthrough and exaggeration to it's specialty! Street fighter 5 an ok game, not sure #notbiased. has amazing Key poses, and follow through to make every attack stand out and differentiated from each other. Mortal kombat? they look like chickens when they t...

let's talk about Sketches

Who doesn't love sketches? they look messy but that's what's great about it! the fact that it looks so good without uniformed lines is what's fascinates me, either that or the other kind of sketches i see is when it's drawn on paper and it's usually consisted of portraits and other forms of realistic faces. For me as a cartoonist, sketches is where the drawing begins, the point a to point z, i can't do a drawing without making the proper sketch fundamentals of construction and proportions. without sketches, my drawings would actually be horribly anatomically wrong and that's not ok! You have seen those tutorials in how to draw where they start with simple shapes then in the next step it's already a face that you wanted to know how to do that process but you've been denied of it? Basically they want to teach you about how to use the constructions, nearly every drawings i work on, starts with a circle with a cross in the face, 2 circles for eyes...
